Jewelry Appraisals in New Orleans
An appraisal answers a simple question — what is this worth? — but the right answer depends on why you are asking. Replacement value for insurance, fair market value for an estate, and what a piece would bring if sold can be very different numbers. I make sure you get the one you actually need.
Appraisals for insurance
Most insurers want a current written appraisal describing each piece in enough detail to replace it: metal, stones, measurements, quality and condition. Prices move, so it is sensible to update an insurance appraisal every few years.
Estate appraisals
When jewelry has to be divided among heirs or settled as part of an estate, I provide written valuations and work directly with executors, attorneys and trust officers when that helps.
My background
My appraisals draw on more than thirty years of buying, selling and pricing fine jewelry and watches in the trade. If your insurer, attorney or accountant requires an appraisal from a specifically credentialed appraiser for a particular purpose, I will tell you at the outset and refer you to the right person.
What to bring
The pieces themselves; any earlier appraisals, receipts or diamond grading reports; and, for an estate, the purpose of the appraisal.
