For more than a century, the Adler name has been part of the story of New Orleans jewelry. The family tradition began in 1898, when my great-grandfather, Coleman E. Adler, established a jewelry business in New Orleans. From its early days on Royal Street in the French Quarter to its long presence on Canal Street, the Adler family became closely associated with fine jewelry, custom design, important civic commissions, and the traditions of New Orleans.
Today, I am continuing that tradition in a new and more personal direction.
I am Coleman E. Adler III, a fourth-generation member of the Adler family jewelry tradition, with more than 30 years of experience in fine jewelry, diamonds, jewelry design, and custom work. My practice is an independent, private jeweler in New Orleans, serving clients by appointment.
A New Orleans Jewelry Tradition
The history of the Adler family in New Orleans jewelry reaches back to the late nineteenth century. Beginning in 1898, Coleman E. Adler's jewelry firm created distinctive pieces for New Orleans families, civic organizations, and Mardi Gras krewes.
Over the decades, Adler's Jewelry became known throughout Louisiana for fine craftsmanship and important commissions. The firm created the Times-Picayune Loving Cup, a silver service presented to the crew of the U.S.S. Louisiana, the Louisiana Centennial coin, and other significant pieces connected to the history of New Orleans and Louisiana.
The Adler family jewelry tradition also included exceptional gemstones, fine watches, silver, and jewelry from internationally recognized makers.
That history is an important part of who I am as a jeweler, but my business today is deliberately different.
A Private Jeweler in New Orleans
Rather than operating a traditional jewelry store or showroom, I have chosen to work directly with clients by appointment.
A private jewelry practice allows me to devote my time and attention to one client and one project at a time. Whether you are searching for a New Orleans engagement ring, considering a custom wedding ring, looking for a distinctive piece of fine jewelry, or interested in redesigning an heirloom, the process begins with a conversation.
My work encompasses custom jewelry design, diamond sourcing, gemstone sourcing, engagement rings, wedding rings, fine jewelry, and high-end one-of-a-kind pieces.
For clients searching for a jeweler in New Orleans, the advantage of this approach is simple: instead of selecting only from what happens to be available in a jewelry store display case, we can begin with what you actually want to create.
Custom Engagement Rings and Fine Jewelry
Custom engagement rings in New Orleans have always been an important part of my work. I work with clients to select the right diamond or gemstone and then develop a design around the stone, the wearer, and the occasion.
I also design and manufacture much more than engagement rings.
A commission may involve an exceptional diamond, a rare colored gemstone, a family heirloom, or an entirely original piece of custom fine jewelry. I can source loose diamonds and gemstones and work through the design and manufacturing process to create a finished piece that is made specifically for the client.
For clients seeking something particularly unusual, this can include rare diamonds, vivid colored diamonds, unusual antique or modern gemstones, and custom platinum or gold jewelry.
The Adler Name and an Independent Practice
Because of the history of Adler's Jewelry in New Orleans, it is important to make a distinction.
My current business is an independent jewelry practice and is not affiliated with the former retail operations of Coleman E. Adler & Sons. Following the retirement of our family's patriarch and the closure of those traditional retail operations, I chose to continue my own career in jewelry through a private, direct-to-client practice.
The connection is one of family history, craftsmanship, experience, and a continuing commitment to fine jewelry—not the continuation of the former retail company.
New Orleans Jewelry, By Appointment
For more than 127 years, the Adler name has been associated with jewelry in New Orleans. My goal is to carry that tradition forward while creating a very different experience for today's client.
There is no large showroom and no pressure to browse a display case. Instead, clients have direct access to me for private jewelry consultations, custom jewelry design, diamond and gemstone sourcing, engagement rings, heirloom redesign, jewelry appraisal and other fine jewelry services.
If you are searching for New Orleans jewelry, a New Orleans jeweler, a private jeweler in New Orleans, or someone to help create a truly individual engagement ring or piece of fine jewelry, I invite you to contact me.
